Good morning and welcome to the Extra Slice.
Speaker 2:This is going to stick right. It's now stuck, slice, slice yeah. You're going to sing Slice, slice, baby, aren't you?
Speaker 1:Slice, slice, baby.
Speaker 2:I knew that would happen.
Speaker 1:I'm going to get that intro'd, by the way. Slice, Slice Baby.
Speaker 2:You're going to get a proper Slice, slice Baby intro. I'd get in trouble for that, wouldn't I? Yeah, yeah, I don't think I can hang on, was it not? Who was it who got done?
Speaker 1:for that one. Hang on, he did that one, but he didn't get the copyright yeah, so he would probably.
Speaker 2:So he gave like 99 of all his income from ice ice baby to his dms and he wouldn't mind slice, slice, baby, anyway morning literally, we haven't even spoken about a single guest. We're talking about whether or not we can get copyrighted for Vanilla Rice.
Speaker 1:Right, yes, so Colin.
Speaker 2:Colin.
Speaker 1:What a lovely man. So I've seen Colin so many times out and about networking events on the scene.
Speaker 2:Hang on when you say you've seen Colin out and about. Have you actually been to a same networking thing where Colin's at? Yes, You've just never spoken to him. We've never spoken, We've never spoken. You are so antisocial.
Speaker 1:And I tend to. That's why you say I tend to speak to everybody.
Speaker 2:I just think our paths haven't been opposite sides of the room Not being funny Gem for those people who don't know you. Would they really make a beeline for you? Probably not, probably not.
Speaker 1:Maybe avoid. I'm quite quiet and avoid, or overwhelming Gem.
Speaker 2:Maybe he's just avoided you. Anyway, let me go along and tell you we instantly have to say nice things about Colin. Now we don't have to. We could say whatever the hell we want to, but he did bring us Greggs. Oh my, the first ever guest ever. And, by the way, any future guests this does definitely help you with your extra slice rundown of when we want to talk about you.
Speaker 1:He brought us cakes? We're definitely going to like you more. Talk about you. If you bring greg's cakes, we're definitely gonna like you more, colin.
Speaker 2:What a ledge. Amazing, you are a ledge, okay. Do you want to talk about the cakes he brought us, or should we talk about colin?
Speaker 1:let's talk about colin. Okay, but thank you for the cakes, colin yeah, and the millionaire shortbread that you especially like I've already had a bit. Yeah, no, I, I think it is. I said I've known connor for quite a while but never knew his backstory and didn't know how Kingsfleet even.
Speaker 2:I didn't know Kingsfleet was the name of a primary school.
Speaker 1:No, I know and you know, I loved how we ended it. If you haven't listened, go and listen now. We ended it on his little story about the fountain.
Speaker 2:Yes.
Speaker 1:I actually cannot forget that now On the community fountain. Yeah, I love that Such a great guy. But, yeah, I love that Such a great guy. But yeah, no, he's so good on the podcast as well.
Speaker 2:You can definitely see he does his own when he says that was a thing. I think we handed him something and he went. Yeah, media trained.
Speaker 1:And I thought oh no, I think no, when we do the sounds initially and I'm like, can you just speak into the mic.
Speaker 2:And instantly it went to the media voice of one, two, one, three, four. It's like all right, fine, it's not his first time at the rodeo, is?
Speaker 1:it. No, it's good we've had a few. We've had a few ifas on here.
Speaker 2:Yes, this is the third yes, hang on. You've got to be careful, caroline, whenever you mention ifa. Yes, she gets a bit emosh.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:So I think we'll go along and say we've had some financial experts, yes, who are FAs, ifas, fps.
Speaker 1:IFPs.
Speaker 2:IFPs Lots of, yeah stuff.
Speaker 1:But they're all individual people, was my point. They're all very different. Backgrounds are different, how they got into what they're doing was all very different, which was really interesting to hear from colin when you hear his background, how much knowledge does that guy have right?
Speaker 2:wow, it's literally oh yeah, I went to do this and then I so I mean when he was talking about he's gone from banks to building societies, but as they're, adding more products. He's learning more and more and more and more and more products from a man who didn't like studying at school.
Speaker 1:Yeah, who couldn't kind of, who couldn't focus. And now?
Speaker 2:I did. I meant to ask him whether or not he's ever like adhd or check for add or something else like that. It sounds a little bit like it. You know I was in a groom in a group and there's a lot of things going along. Yeah, he can focus, but once it's just focused on one individual thing, yeah. Everything else becomes.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:Things. I mean you see it sometimes with autistic people and ADHD and what have you where they'll have headphones on with white noise and stuff, just to distract, so they can focus yeah. I love that. Yeah done brilliant.
Speaker 1:No, because I learned a lot from Colin. I really did.
Speaker 2:I didn't know he was going to and I want to listen to his podcast now.
Speaker 1:Have you not listened to one yet? No, oh, I have. I have actually listened to one of his podcasts.
Speaker 2:Have you listened to one of his podcasts?
Speaker 1:Yeah, so this is a guy who I've been in the same room with, listened to his podcast, followed him on LinkedIn. Each other. We comment on each other's posts, but we only met each other the first time.
Speaker 2:So has he got like trillions of followers Thousands, do you know this?
Speaker 1:No, I don't know this. Why are you asking me about numbers? Well, I don't know.
Speaker 2:I don't know. There's always the hope that one day, gem, you'll go. Oh, do you know what A number suddenly makes sense?
Speaker 1:to me it's not going to happen.
Speaker 2:I don't know, but he does very very well, has he had anyone on that, we know, or?
Speaker 1:not the one. I've not watched, I've not tuned into many, but I've just seen a couple. But they do very, very well. Similar to us. It's just about bringing the business community together similar to us, just with bigger numbers he's a huge advocate for suffolk businesses, so which is amazing and I suppose there's the difference where he was talking about.
Speaker 2:Oh, I do a podcast and I've got so-and-so from the bbc and so-and-so from the bbc and so-and-so, from the bbc if we're going. Yeah, we sit in this room and just kind of wing it a bit yeah, we have jemma and nick but there we go, jem maybe not just maybe that's the asset that we need. Yeah, just just the two of us. Cool, oh, we're gonna start another song if we do that one.
Speaker 2:Yeah, let's yeah okay, let's just avoid that one. And colin also. He's doing various media bits and pieces, I think I think he'd come.
Speaker 1:He'd just been on the radio before coming here, had he not?
Speaker 2:I think he'd done suffolk sounds he's done something recording.
Speaker 1:I know he's got some photo shoot tomorrow. He's a man in demand.
Speaker 2:Yes, oh yeah, just just just a photo shoot to have to do tomorrow, and no, you're my son, so from the bbc, and yeah, to make comment on this and what have you.
Speaker 1:But I, I guess he's obviously again such a genuine, genuine guy but he's down to earth there's no arrogance about it.
Speaker 2:No, not at all can you imagine us if we went? Oh, we've got to do something on the bbc it's like ta-da guess where we are.
Speaker 2:And imagine me if you said jen, we've got a photo shoot tomorrow um, yeah, please, if anyone wants to do that, we're busy or just or tell me, but don't tell jim, because, yeah, I think that would be, yeah, yeah, something a little bit different, but yeah. So, colin, I'll tell you what I'm gonna add. A new thing, so you know, you want to extra slice people because you don't want to stop fighting.
Speaker 1:It's happened, all right, okay, so now we are at podcast. I don't want to add extra slides.
Speaker 2:Stop fighting it. It's happened, all right. Okay. So now we are at podcast. I don't know 20, 15, 7.
Speaker 1:105.
Speaker 2:Whatever the number, is Episode something we're going to grade our guests? Oh Score him out of 10.
Speaker 1:Okay this is the worst thing for me, because everyone's going to get like 10, aren't they from me? No, oh you worst thing for me, because everyone's going to get like 10, aren't they from me?
Speaker 2:no, oh, you know what I'm like. No, because I'm then going to start grilling you down on whatever number you give it okay so is this out of 10 score calling out of 10 nine and nine.
Speaker 1:Yeah, so he's one point off, the perfect guest yes that's a great shout because he had podcast experience, he brought cakes. He's a great shout, because he had podcast experience, he brought cakes. He's a very, very, very, very genuine, down-to-earth guy, really easy to talk to and cares about the community. That's my reasoning, okay, beat that.
Speaker 2:Well, I can. But the problem is it's going to sound like I'm beating it for the purpose of beating it.
Speaker 1:So what do you give him a 9.5.
Speaker 2:So I think I'm going to give him a 9.1. 9.1. Yeah so it would have been. I think it would have been. I think it would have been about an eight, if I'm fair about this, because I think, whilst Colin is genuine, down to earth, brilliant on a microphone, great stuff it's also difficult to sound too excited about finance products and banking. This is true, so you have to. I mean, if you think back to the Wayne interview, where it's like random acts of kindness and the various other bits of pizza that had people laughing.
Speaker 1:He did tell us about his mate, phil.
Speaker 2:Phil from Cardiff.
Speaker 1:Phil from Cardiff.
Speaker 2:He wants to join the circus, yeah, but again, you know it's a unfortunately. I think when you're in the finance field, I mean it's no different than accountancy. You know, when you've said, oh, we must get on Instagram, I'm like why it's so dull.
Speaker 1:What are your fun stories about accountancy?
Speaker 2:Oh he has a calculator, woo-hoo, so yeah. So it's difficult to sort of have that and I think, coming from that background, he is going to be. I mean, even though he is definitely a shining light and a beacon of personality in a field of finance people, it's still yeah. Yeah, what do you do? I went to work at the bank and I did investments, mortgages and stuff, so yeah. So he would have been an eight or maybe an 8.1, but I'm giving him plus one point, greg's, because he brought in cakes. What a nice thing to do so the official.
Speaker 2:The official score for colin. There we go 18.1 out of 20. What a score for a guest.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and no one in the past knows whether they beat him or didn't, because we've only just we've made up scoring, and it may be that no one else ever has like scores this doesn't take off, though, because I don't want our guests to hear this and then start scoring us at the end of it doesn't matter.
Speaker 2:On the league table of everyone, we're gonna be at the bottom anyway, because they're gonna go, what would you say?
Speaker 1:yeah, three, two yeah, what is that? They gave me a drink. I don't want a joint score with you, though I want my own score. I don't want to join, but everyone always likes you more than me anyway, so it's like my own, so nick could score. Oh how own score.
Speaker 2:So Nick could score. Oh, how was Nick? Oh, 9.5. Great Knew the subject matter. Kept everything casual. Oh, how was Gem 9.6. What did she do? Brought me a water. Yeah, do you know what I mean? Even if you didn't do spoken so much, then we could have heard more of Jem, and that's what's important.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and Jem probably booked him to get here.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Jem gave him directions.
Speaker 2:And water and brought him a drink. To be fair, you do ask a lot of questions as well.
Speaker 1:I did talk on the podcast. It's like the Nick Show plus Jemma, because that would be rubbish. Nick Show plus Jemma.
Speaker 2:No right, Anyway, wrapping up Right extra slides done for Colin, so Colin your score is 18.2. Everyone you can listen in to where we don't give people scores, because we'll forget all about it.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:But yeah, there you go.
Speaker 1:Thanks for listening, thanks for subscribing, thank you for listening.
Speaker 2:And thanks, colin, cheers Bye.
