Big smile, serious work ethic, and a refreshingly simple formula: earn consistently, save on purpose, invest wisely, and keep turning up even when nobody’s cheering.

We’ll admit it, we started this chat a little sceptical. Another property story? But pretty quickly we realised this one was different. Halstead breaks down how he pieced things together over time: teaching Pilates and karate for steady income, running networking events to meet the right people, and even doing utilities work to keep the cash flow steady.

What makes this conversation great is how real it is. We talk about first impressions, why humility often says more than big talk, and how just showing up with a positive attitude can change the opportunities that come your way.

By the end, we’re rethinking our expectations and ranking this episode near the top of our guest league table for pure motivation.

If you’re thinking about a side hustle, starting a small property portfolio, or just getting your momentum back, there’s plenty here to steal.

SPEAKER_00

Welcome to the extra slice.

SPEAKER_02

Slice sliced.

SPEAKER_00

I don't know if I like that any better than the one we've got.

SPEAKER_02

Slice, sliced baby. Well, I've got some trouble for sitting on that.

Meet Housted: First Impressions

SPEAKER_00

It was so far away from the original. No one would even know that you've like there's no PRS royalties on that one, Joan. Honestly, it's closer to an advert for fish or something than that. Was anything to do with like yeah. Wearing a copyright going on there. Okay, so Mr. Housta Dotley.

SPEAKER_02

Oh my gosh.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, let I'm gonna go along and give away secrets. I don't know. Actually, I can't do that. You're gonna be really angry at me.

SPEAKER_02

No, you can get very sure. Can I just say one thing? The smiliest, nicest guy ever. I didn't think anyone could smile more than I smile.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, I'm gonna have a smile off. Uh I'm gonna talk to you about smile off.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

SPEAKER_00

Joe Wood, Halstead Otley.

SPEAKER_02

Oh. Housted.

SPEAKER_00

Because they're the two smiliest people I know. Yeah, you're you're like Championship League compared to their then in the premiership. They're in the Prem.

SPEAKER_02

House has won the cup.

SPEAKER_00

Oh, Housted's just won. Yeah, he's won the cup. Yeah, that's fine.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

There we go. So Housted has completed being the smiliest person.

SPEAKER_02

There's so much about Housted that I really, really liked.

SPEAKER_00

Okay, so here's the good part. You go along and drop me in this all the time, so I'm gonna drop you in it as well.

SPEAKER_02

Go on then.

SPEAKER_00

But you know when you say, oh yeah, afterwards you didn't really want them on or you weren't too sure if you click with them or whatever. Yeah, you didn't want a house stud on.

SPEAKER_02

No, I didn't not want him on. I didn't know much about him. And I thought, oh, property.

SPEAKER_00

I've researched Housted for at least five hours and I don't want him on.

SPEAKER_02

You know I'd never researched anything for that long.

SPEAKER_00

That's totally made up. Yeah.

Humble Beginnings And Relentless Work

SPEAKER_02

Uh no, because I thought it's property. I was like, oh you know much about that.

SPEAKER_00

To be fair, I was I I have to say I was a little apprehensive at the beginning of that conversation because I thought he was just gonna go, yeah. So yeah, I did school and then I worked at the co-op and beat a few people up. Cheers, thanks for inviting me on. And I was like, I don't know, this this could go dramatically wrong.

SPEAKER_02

The way that guy has grafted his whole life.

SPEAKER_00

But do you want to know what's even better about it? And I'm gonna give someone else a big compliment about this.

SPEAKER_01

Go on.

SPEAKER_00

Your husband.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Some of the stuff he's done, and he's so humble about it and never really talks about it.

SPEAKER_01

Yes.

SPEAKER_00

Houster just did exactly the same thing.

SPEAKER_01

Yes. Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

There's no talk about, oh yeah, so um I have this portfolio of this many houses, and I do this and I do that. It was, yeah, I worked at the co-op and I worked at some of the toughest places because then I'd just go and do that.

SPEAKER_02

You save money to buy some houses.

SPEAKER_00

And then I and then I had to like help support my mum.

SPEAKER_02

Brag about it or rave about it.

SPEAKER_00

It wasn't until I brought out the researchers talking about the various bits and pieces, and he's just looking shocked at me again. He did look really earth, did you get this from?

SPEAKER_02

And I love that he was about to leave here to go and do a politis class. Yeah, to earn some money.

Multiple Gigs And Smiling Through It

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, to go and charge some people some more money to just save up for something else they want.

SPEAKER_02

Always on the hustle. I love that. I know a lot I know a couple of people that You know he does UW as well. No, does he? I didn't know that.

SPEAKER_00

I think he does UW as well as like so he does utility warehouse. He does progressive where he goes and holds their networking events.

SPEAKER_01

The networking, yeah.

SPEAKER_00

He does Pilates classes, karate classes. So he's got classes going on all over the place, fitness classes on all over the place. Like everything he's got going, and yet it's a oh, what do you want to do? Oh, by the by the age of like 24, I figured I could make more money doing property than I could doing co-op. Oh, okay, so at that point you could retire. Well, pretty much, but I'm just gonna carry on doing stuff because I want to graft. Amazing guy.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah, very, very good guy. I like I like his ethics. I like everything. I like everything about him.

SPEAKER_00

Okay. So here is the burning question. How much did you like him as a guest?

SPEAKER_02

Nine point six. What? Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

That is 0.4 points off perfect.

SPEAKER_02

0.4 points off perfect.

SPEAKER_00

That is nuts. Yeah, I don't think I can score him a 9.6.

SPEAKER_02

He he literally left me feeling like I want to I want to record that, I want to show that recording to everyone who says, Oh, I can't, oh but this, oh but that, oh yeah, oh there's an obstacle.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, yeah.

SPEAKER_02

He just smashed all of that.

SPEAKER_00

Yeah, I think I think as far as an inspirational guest he he's uh it's a high, high score for inspiring. Overall as a guest.

SPEAKER_02

And that smile alone is 8.5.

SPEAKER_01

Oh.

SPEAKER_00

I loved Halstead as a guest, but I think a lot of the impact he had on you I already knew about. So I knew about a lot of the stuff about Halstead.

SPEAKER_02

Yes. And in the first That's the first day I've met him, so yeah, I've I got that wow, this guy's awesome.

SPEAKER_00

In in the first ten minutes, I kind of had that fear of going, Yeah, as a guest, you're not giving anything to me. So it was quite difficult to go, hang on, this could end up being Jem pulling this stupid, smiley, grin smug face, going, I don't know why you invited him on. I don't know why you're trying to convince me. This is your one chance. But I think once he relaxed and opened up, amazing. So he was like a 10 out of 10 guest, like as he went on.

SPEAKER_02

But at the beginning of the case, it's funny you can read that from me because when I have guests on that you're a bit oh, I don't know about this. When I start seeing you reacting positively, I know, yeah, he this is working.

SPEAKER_00

I just don't care.

SPEAKER_02

You must have seen me smiling at Halsted.

SPEAKER_00

I just don't care that much. I thought we have to have a bit more of our banter because I think it's almost like today we've been too nice to one another. So I feel I should just kind of give you some kind of shit. So this is this is more like it. So yeah, so I think Housted scores, hang on, a 9.6 and an 8.5. He scores an 18.1, which puts him just slightly behind Henry. Henry scored an 18.2, and Housted scored an 18.1. You can't change it, it just is. That's fine. People sit where they sit.

SPEAKER_02

That's fine.

SPEAKER_00

So on the league table, currently Housted is a strong second place.

SPEAKER_02

Okay.

Ratings Debate And Inspiration

SPEAKER_00

And if I change my mind about Henry and he scores down, then he'll take top place. Okay. But we can't. You can't change your mind. We're not, we're done. We're not. Anyway, the most important thing is it's been awesome having housted on.

SPEAKER_02

It was brilliant having housted on.

SPEAKER_00

I'm so glad he he came on.

SPEAKER_02

I am. And I'm so glad he was here to and thank you, Nick, for inviting.

SPEAKER_00

No, no, no, not more a case of I'm glad he was here to inspire.

SPEAKER_02

That's what I felt from it.

SPEAKER_00

And I think it's nice for our listeners to hear.

SPEAKER_02

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Amazing. Thank you, Housted. Thanks, Housted. Not so much, thanks, Chad.

SPEAKER_02

Thank you, listeners and subscribers. And thanks, listeners and subscribers. Because I care about even though Nick doesn't.

SPEAKER_00

Look, I care about many things.

SPEAKER_02

You didn't thank them for listening.

SPEAKER_00

You didn't on the last one. In your face.

SPEAKER_02

Bye.

SPEAKER_00

Bye.
