Breaking Down a “Consistent” Entrepreneur

The Fun Side Of Business - The Extra Slice
Exclusive access to premium content!Between the laughs, we actually pause long enough to break down what makes a great guest and what we’re really looking for in a top-tier conversation.
This time, our focus is Craig Sennett. We dig into what makes him stand out: starting early, building businesses, and showing a level of consistency most entrepreneurs spend years chasing. We unpack long-term profitability, what “fearless” looks like in the real world (hint: it’s not loud), and why treating big goals like experiments might be the smartest move you can make.
Along the way, we butcher a few martial arts names, admit what genuinely caught us off guard, and explore how personal branding and even your name can stick harder than expected.
We also get honest about interviewing itself. When you know the guest, it’s easy to stay surface-level. So we ask: did we actually learn something? The verdict—solid, but there’s a clear upgrade path. More stories, especially from recruitment, would take it to the next level.
Deep Voice Cold Open
SPEAKER_00Go on then, Jem. Where's the intro?
SPEAKER_01Welcome to the extra slide.
SPEAKER_02Why are you looking at me like that? Slice, slice, slice. You know when last time you done that really deep voice, I was gonna try and do that.
SPEAKER_00You should try it.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01What was that?
SPEAKER_00I have no idea. Nor have I ever heard my please don't ever do that again. That freaked me out so much. I literally was like, Jem's been possessed.
SPEAKER_02That actually is.
SPEAKER_00Welcome. That's it. Gem's broken now by her own voice. Yeah, don't do that, Jem. I mean, what I don't know why you can't just like drop down and occupate you. Instead, you're like, oh yeah, hang on. It's like, oh, I was gonna try this in a lower voice. Oh, really? God, then. Yeah. It sounded like Screamo stuff for Henry.
SPEAKER_02That's what it was.
SPEAKER_00Anyway, right, okay. So I did it again, so we've worked out Jem. If anyone talks to Jem, just ask her to do her deep voice. Yeah. And then see if you can try and avoid getting freaked out that Jem swallowed a demon.
SPEAKER_02Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so Craig Sennett.
SPEAKER_02Back in the room. Craig Sennett. Oh, am I gonna am I giving my opinion?
SPEAKER_00Sure, why not?
SPEAKER_02I didn't know a lot of that about Craig, by the way.
Craig Sennett Back In Focus
SPEAKER_00I didn't like that he spoke too highly about Stoke. That upset me a little bit. Do you not think he's got you? Because he's on the board of governors, is that what it is?
SPEAKER_02I I think the I think the really telling thing is Why is he on the board of governors there and not the board of governors of Coppleston?
SPEAKER_00Because he's not good enough.
SPEAKER_02Because he's not good enough. Because Copleston isn't as important to him as Stoke.
SPEAKER_00That's right. The three months he spent there would have made all the difference.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02I actually thought he was there longer than that. I didn't know that's what I think. Three whole months. Yeah, I thought he was there longer.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_02Probably the best three months of his life.
SPEAKER_00No.
SPEAKER_02And I didn't know he could do all of the karate. Jiu Jitsu.
SPEAKER_00The Jitsu, yeah, that's right.
SPEAKER_02Jiu Jitsu.
SPEAKER_00Jujitsu? Okay, yeah. How'd you say it? No, I know I'm liking your version of everything. Jitsu. Iron Man band. Yep. Jitsu, yep.
SPEAKER_02Sumo. Sumo. No, you don't do sumo restaurants. Sumo, yep. Yeah, no, he doesn't.
SPEAKER_00Honestly, Jam, I love this one. I've seen so many viral reels where they kind of get like Americans and go, like, oh, what's the capital of China? And they go, like, Norway. And they go, correct.
SPEAKER_02What are all the fighting styles then? I'm now just gonna do it. Yeah, so Craig's done.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Craig, well, congratulations on achieving black belt at sumo.
SPEAKER_02And susits.
SPEAKER_00Susitsu. And you know Do you know I've got right?
SPEAKER_02Karate.
Martial Arts And Name Chaos
SPEAKER_00Karate. Karate. Okay.
SPEAKER_02That's how Ross says it in friends. That's about it.
SPEAKER_00Is he a black belt and susits? Susitsu. Jiu Jitsu. That's right.
SPEAKER_02Can you teach me jiu-jitsu?
SPEAKER_00No, no, no, we've done this before.
SPEAKER_02That's right.
SPEAKER_00Remember being in my garden and getting drunk. And then trying to come out with yeah, it doesn't work.
SPEAKER_02I didn't know all that about him, but I just thought it was I didn't know as he was well diverse.
SPEAKER_00I bet you didn't realise published author, right?
SPEAKER_02I didn't know that either. I had no idea. No idea. Or I like Craig, genuine nice thing.
SPEAKER_00The fact that late 20s, running his own business.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, didn't know that. I knew the I knew the stent in recruitment.
SPEAKER_00Do you know what I did like that one though? Genuinely, where he said, yeah, best thing ever done.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00You know, or b biggest achievement in business. 21 years and never had a year where he makes a loss.
SPEAKER_02I know.
SPEAKER_00That's amazing.
SPEAKER_02It's like not even a big, not even a big profit, it's just profit. Yeah, that's amazing.
SPEAKER_00That's so good.
SPEAKER_02It wasn't again another hard worker.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_00Well that again, you know, if you look at him and you look at Housted, you know, it'd say, oh yeah, by the way, if you want to do something, yeah, we'll just go and do it. Do it. Oh, yeah. You asked him, didn't you? I feel like writing a book, yeah. All right, I'll just do it.
Author Claims And Career Surprises
SPEAKER_02You said to him, do you ever get fearful? No. No, but if I can actually afford to do it, it's not gonna make me broke, then I'll just give it a go. Like that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, multi-talented guy.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And I can't believe it's not even like, you know, oh yeah, well, I want to run a recruitment company, yeah. Or done that. And, you know, ate staff and exited that one. And then I'll yeah, I'll just start an IT company. How much do you know about IT? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I just still love the fact. To this very day, he still hates that company name.
SPEAKER_00He still hates it. That's so good. There's not even any bitterness either, because all the time he was there, he hated it.
SPEAKER_02But he just doesn't he just doesn't like that name.
SPEAKER_00Although I'm guessing if you did go, oh yeah, you know, you're accused of being a policeman, after you go, yeah, all you think is IT support that you don't do, and then the only other thing you get recognized as is a policeman that you're not that either. Yeah. Yeah, I suppose you've got to learn to hate that name. Oh bless you. Okay, come on then, as a guest.
SPEAKER_01Hmm. 8.6. Okay.
Profit Streak And Fearless Mindset
SPEAKER_02Because I've never worked in recruitment, so I can't really relate. See, I I'm not we both know how great I'm at IT, so no one can really teach me about IT.
SPEAKER_00See, I'm a bit gutted that he didn't tell the recruitment stories.
SPEAKER_02I think he was really reluctant to.
SPEAKER_00I think we definitely need to get someone in that just goes, honestly, I hate recruitment so much, and I don't ever want to go back. Oh, so I haven't signed any NDAs and I'm just gonna tell you all the stories.
SPEAKER_02Well, this is the thing, people don't need to name where they work. That was his mistake. Yeah. He said where he worked.
SPEAKER_00Yep.
SPEAKER_02We need someone to come in and say, I've worked in recruitment for plus amount of years. I'm not gonna name the company, but these are the stories.
SPEAKER_00How about this? Why don't we get someone? In fact, why don't we get Craig to write a story about what happened in recruitment, even if it didn't? And then he could just come along and be that guest, and then we can finally hear the recruitment stories.
SPEAKER_02Storytime of Craig. Yeah. Yeah. Sounds good.
SPEAKER_00Right, what do you reckon?
SPEAKER_02I'm going 8.6. You're gonna go. I reckon you're gonna go 8.8, 8.9.
SPEAKER_00See now you just want me to not go 8.8, 8.9 because I don't like accepting that you're right.
SPEAKER_02Was that what you were gonna do?
SPEAKER_00Not now.
What Makes A Better Guest
SPEAKER_02That is so what you were gonna do. Not now.
SPEAKER_00By the way, Craig, your score is about to get changed because of gem. Oh, you're such a No, I I have to think about this because No, because I There's part of it which like it's a guest, but there's part of it where you go, yeah, yeah, yeah, how much did I learn? And the answer is not a lot. I know most of the stuff about Craig.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So and I don't want to have bias on the basis that he's also one of my good friends.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you know him really well.
SPEAKER_00So Craig for your podcastness, 8.5. If you want more, tell the stories about recruitment.
SPEAKER_02If you want to have that, I think is fair.
SPEAKER_00If you want to if you want to get up into the high nines, you're gonna have to dish the dirt. You're gonna have to go along and like yeah, tell the stories. Yeah. Skeletons out of the closet need to come out to score high nines.
SPEAKER_02We need stories.
Scores Given And Dirt Requested
SPEAKER_00So yeah, what did you give him? 8.6. Okay, so he scored a very respectable 17.1. Yes. I love the way you're checking my maths. Honestly, I could go, and yeah, Craig, you scored 9.2, and you'd have gone, yes. So yes. Very respectable score, Craig. Excellent. Next time, dish the dirt.
SPEAKER_02Dish the dirt.
SPEAKER_00Amazing. Thank you, subscribers.
SPEAKER_02Thank you, subscribers.
SPEAKER_00I mean, I said that first, Jem was second, but we won't talk about that.
SPEAKER_02Love you, subscribers.
SPEAKER_00You would be the sl oh hang on. I can't I can't say that you'd be the slowest because you came from Stoke, right? That'd be really wrong. That's really rude.
SPEAKER_01Anyway, bye. Bye.
